I remember wanting my 6th graders higher ESL students to read the Lemony Snicket books. My head of department wasn't familiar with the books, he look up the Lexile range and told me the book was inappropriate for my students. The Lexile range was to high you see. He then told me I should try and educate myself on how useful Lexile is when choosing a book for my students.I was very familiar with it, I just don't agree with it. I ended up recommending the books to my students' parents, and many of them ended up reading and loving the books.
