Join the Rebellion: Support Virtue and Wonder
Here is how you can support the next era of Chapter House and Virtue and Wonder.
July the Fourth approaches, and with it the 250th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence. We are declaring independence of our own, but we need your help.
For years, Josh, our family’s sole provider, has juggled multiple jobs, often at once, to support our family of five. But Chapter House and Virtue and Wonder are more than mere jobs. They are a mission, and an important one. There is no greater calling than restoring literacy, virtue, and wonder to children who have been demoralized, stripped of their cultural heritage, and dumbed down. That is not something to juggle.
Our book sales have been excellent, and we have been heartened to read so many wonderful reviews of our books. However, there is a gap that we need your help to close. As the old joke goes: “How do you become a millionaire in publishing? Start as a billionaire.”
For many long months, we have been consistently publishing two long posts per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and have asked nothing in return. We will continue to do so. We have no desire to paywall what we have done or already do, and in our experience, that is a fickle business model.
Our paid tiers are primarily our invitation for your support, but we also want to add value to what you already receive here:
Standard: $80 per year or $8 per month (two months free when you subscribe by the year). This will help support our mission. In exchange, we would like to intermittently share drafts of our upcoming projects with you as we work on them, likely on Wednesdays. Two things we have in the works are a Chapter House-inspired reading curriculum and two followups to James Baldwin’s Fifty Famous Stories Retold and Fifty Famous People. By supporting us, you can help shape the future of Chapter House.
Benefactor: $200 per year (or more if you wish). For these supporters, we will establish a chat room or group chat. Additionally, we will offer a monthly group call. These will give you a chance to ask whatever questions you have about homeschooling, reading with your children, the Chapter House books, or whatever is on your mind.
We realize that asking for money is never comfortable, but we are doing all that we can to make this a full-time mission that can support our family’s modest lifestyle. If you believe in that mission, we humbly ask for your support.
Reading Is Rebellion
The Bible teaches that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.1 However, rebellion is at the very heart of the American spirit, and America remains a beacon of Christian culture. We Americans are nothing if not a conundrum.
We have realized that the Chapter House project itself is something of a rebellion:
A rebellion against those who would deny us our ability to think
A rebellion against ignorance and illiteracy
A rebellion against short attention spans
A rebellion against ugliness and vulgarity
The harder question is whom we are rebelling against. Oftentimes, that rebellion is against ourselves and our sinful natures. With Chapter House and Virtue and Wonder, we, like the Founding Fathers of this nation, hope to build something greater than ourselves.
Join the rebellion.
